New York University 88, Mount Saint Vincent 71

NEW YORK — Playing in front of a festive holiday crowd the New York University men`s basketball team won its sixth straight contest with an 88-71 victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday, December 30, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

With the scored tied at 22-22 with 6:55 left in the opening stanza the Violets (7-1), who played their first game in 19 days, used a 14-5 to close the first half and take a 36-27 halftime lead.

NYU saw its 11-point second half lead cut to six within the first five minutes of the second half, but that was as close as the Dolphins (2-7) would get. The Violets posted a 60-42 lead midway through the final half and held their biggest lead, 74-50, with 5:28 remaining.

Jared Kildare led all scorers with 23 points, while Jason Boone netted 12 points on 5-6 from the field. Jeff Gilkerson recorded his fifth "double-double" of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds, while Chael Clark came off the bench to add a career-high 11 points. He also added a career-high five rebounds, while Kildare collected a game-high nine assists.

Luigi Nikci led the Dolphins with 19 points.
