Gettysburg 67, Central 49

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Chilly second half shooting and turnovers were the difference as the Central College men’s basketball team was subdued by Gettysburg College Thursday, 67-49, in the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Tournament.

After trailing just 34-28 at intermission, Central (3-6) hit only five-of-18 shots for 27.8 percent in the second half. Gettysburg (4-5) came up with 18 steals on the night, forcing 29 turnovers by the young Dutch, who again started three freshmen. Central was also without starting center Clint Driftmier who is out indefinitely due to a foot injury.

Simeon Lang hit nine-of-10 free throws and led Central with 12 points while former Jefferson-Scranton High School teammate Keith Pedersen had 10 points. Forward Scott Huisman had a team-high six rebounds but was limited to five points.

Central outrebounded Gettysburg, 30-21, but shot 37.1 percent from the field while Gettysburg hit 50 percent. The Bullets placed four players in double figures.

Host Cal Lutheran, which defeated the Dutch Wednesday, won the tournament with a 68-66 overtime victory over Carthage College (Wis.).

Central resumes Iowa Conference play Wednesday at Luther College in Decorah.
