Adrian 89, Alfred 69

WILKES-BARRE, PA — The Alfred University men’s basketball team lost to Adrian College, 89-69, in the consolation round of the King’s College Tournament Thursday night.

The Saxons (5-5, 0-0 Empire 8) trailed by only seven at halftime, but a 17-2 run by the Bulldogs (6-4) to open the second half would put the game out of reach. AU shot well from the floor, finishing at 47 percent.

Junior guard Quentin Bryant (Buffalo, NY/Seneca Vocational) had a team-high 26 points and three steals, while sophomore center Dillon Stein (N. Huntington, PA/Norwin) recorded a double double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Ryan Clemenson (Ovid, NY/South Seneca) grabbed 10 boards and chipped in with six points.

Junior forward Ryan Hallett (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) dished out a team-high six assists and sophomore forward Jermel Brown (Wolcott, NY/North Rose Wolcott) added six points and two rebounds off the bench for AU.

Junior forward Mike Lewis (Auburn Hills/Avondale) scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace Adrian. Senior guard Brian Schaefer (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) had a game-high 27 points, while senior forward Adam Novak (Grosse Pointe/Grosse Pointe South) scored 13 and dished out five assists.

Alfred will begin conference play on Friday, Jan. 7, at 8 p.m., home against RIT.
