Leading Randolph-Macon was junior forward Justin Wansley, with a team-high 21 points, plus eight rebounds – five of those defensive. He shot 7-for-10 (70.0%) from the floor and made 7-of-9 (77.8%) foul shots. Also for the Yellow Jackets, junior guard Patrick Gill scored 17 points.
Things went back and forth for most of the first half, with five lead changes and three ties. Randolph-Macon was ahead for the last six minutes of the period, leading by as many as nine points, 35-26, with 1:38 remaining before halftime. The margin at the break was six points, 35-29.
Dickinson would lead just once more, scoring 11 of the first 15 points of the second half to go ahead 40-39 a little over five minutes into the period. With 5:43 left in the contest, the Yellow Jackets took their biggest lead, a 12-point advantage at 61-49, on a layup by Wansley. The Red Devils did make a comeback attempt, outscoring Randolph-Macon 10-2 over a span of almost three minutes to reduce the deficit to four points, 63-59, with 3:08 remaining. But that was as close as Dickinson would get. The Yellow Jackets scored nine of the last 13 points, including four foul shots by senior guard Justin Moyer.
Following the performances by Wansley and Gill, Randolph-Macon’s Moyer and sophomore forward Philip Hawley each scored 12 points. Moyer, who was 8-for-9 (88.9%) at the foul line, also handed out a game-high eight assists. Hawley connected on all six of his field goal attempts, and grabbed five rebounds also. Freshman center Andrew Baker pulled down a game and career-high nine rebounds – seven of those at the defensive end of the court.
Dickinson was led by junior guard Matt Keys, with 24 points. Junior forward Travis Doll added 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Pat Coyle totaled nine points and three assists. Fellow sophomore guard Mark Harrison contributed with eight points.
