MARIETTA, Ohio — Sophomore guard Marc Lodovico scored a career-high 28 points in the opening round of the 34th annual Marietta Shrine Tournament to lead the Waynesburg College men's basketball team past host Marietta, 112-103. The 112 points scored by the Yellow Jackets is the most since the 116 scored against Ohio Eastern in the 2001-02 season.OAC Waynesburg Yellow Jackets

The 100-point contest is the second this season for Waynesburg (4-5) and the 102nd time in the 82-year history of the program. WC shot a season-best 57.3 from the field, including a 29 of 46 shooting performance (63 percent) in the first half. The Jackets took advantage of play in the paint, scoring 72 of their 112 points from close range.
Lodovico led all scorers with his 28 points, shooting 12 of 17 from the field, including 3 of 5 from three-point territory. With his second 20-point performance of the season, Lodovico ranks second on the team with a 13.3 points per game average.
Also setting a career high was classmate Jeff Nero. Nero, a 6-1 forward, finished the game with eight points, seven rebounds and a career-high 10 assists.
The match-up between the Yellow Jackets and Pioneers featured nine ties, including a 65-65 score with 17:57 remaining in the second half. Waynesburg then went on a 13-2 run spanning over three minutes, capped off with a Jared Gamble layup.
Gamble and the rest of the WC reserves proved pivotal in the opening round contest. The Jacket bench scored 49 points in the win, led by 14 points from freshman Josh Parisi and 12 from junior Ryan Bujnowski. The two combined to make 13-of-16 attempts from the floor and Parisi led the Jackets with nine rebounds.
Also reaching double-figures for Waynesburg were sophomores Shawn Coleman and Beau Wilson with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Yellow Jackets, who have three of their last four games, will face Manchester (Ind.) College in the championship game of the Shrine Tournament on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Marietta will face Thomas More in the consolation game at 5 p.m.
