King's 87, Alfred 76

WILKES-BARRE, PA — The Alfred University men’s basketball team lost, 87-76, to the host team in the first round of the King’s College Tournament Wednesday night.

The Saxons (5-4, 0-0 Empire 8) out-rebounded King’s College (8-1) 47-37 and finished with four players scoring in double figures, but were unable to make up an eight-point halftime deficit.

Junior guard Quentin Bryant (Buffalo, NY/Seneca Vocational) led the Saxons with 23 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists. Sophomore center Dillon Stein (N. Huntington, PA/Norwin) added 10 points and eight rebounds, while junior forward Ryan Hallett (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) and sophomore guard Rob McCarter (Wooster, OH/Wooster) chipped in with 15 and 11 points respectively. McCarter and senior guard Chris Lemasters (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) each grabbed six boards and dished out three assists for AU.

Senior forward Brian Horgan (North Wales, PA/LaSalle) had 27 points and seven rebounds for King’s College, while senior guard Landon Gabriel (Carbondale, PA/Carbondale Area) added 11 points and four assists.

Alfred will face Adrian College in the consolation round of the tournament on Thursday, Dec. 30, at 5 p.m. at King’s College. Adrian College lost, 84-58, to John Carroll (OH) in first round action on Wednesday.
