Albion (8-0 overall), ranked 11th in the D3hoops.com poll, will meet Ramapo College of Mahwah, N.J., in a semifinal contest Tuesday at 4 p.m. Eastern time.
The Britons used a 12-0 run early in the first half to build a 14-4 lead. Junior center Brandon Crawford started the rally when he tipped in a missed layup. Juniors Garrett Gibbons and Mike Bailey sandwiched three-point field goals around a layup by senior forward Travis DePree.
Albion extended the lead to 15 when senior guard Mike Thomas sank a pair of free throws to make the score 38-23 with 50 seconds left in the first half. Albion took a 38-24 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Albion outscored Mount Union 8-2 over the first three minutes of the second half to build a 20-point cushion at 46-26. Thomas sparked the Britons with a pair of fast break baskets. DePree followed with a basket in the paint and a pair of free throws.
Mount Union tried to rally behind Kyle Karpinski, its 6-6 center. He scored seven points during a 14-5 Purple Raider run that trimmed Albion's lead to 51-41 with 10:48 remaining in the game.
Albion answered with a 13-2 run to pump the lead back to 21, 64-43, with seven minutes left in the game. Thomas knocked down a jumper, Bailey sank a three-point field goal, junior guard Rick Palmer scored a fast break layup, and DePree and Crawford scored layups.
Albion connected on 48 percent of its shots (30-of-62) from the field in the game. DePree finished with a team-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 marksmanship from the free throw line. Crawford collected his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Thomas also scored 16 points.
Karpinski led Mount Union (3-6 overall) with 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field.
