Las Vegas, Nev. — Ripon (8-1) defeated Simpson (4-6) 82-69 in the finals of the adidas D3 Desert Shootout Dec. 22 in Las Vegas, Nev. The Storm opened the game on a 12-0 run before the Red Hawks responded with a 16-7 run of their own. Simpson led 38-35 at halftime and were leading 47-45 with 15:51 to go. Ripon switched from a man-to-man defense to a 3-2 zone and responded by forcing the Storm to miss on their next three possessions. The Red Hawks outscored Simpson 13-0 and led 58-47 with 11:01 remaining before Jason Parkinson hit a three to end the run.

The Storm battled back, cutting the Ripon lead to 76-69 with 3:32 remaining. Simpson turned the ball over on their next two times down the court and went 0-4 down the stretch from the field. The Red Hawks scored their final six points of the game from the free throw line.

Parkinson led all scorers with a career high 30 points. Ryan Hittenmiller added 16 for the Storm. Tom Becker led Ripon with 26 points, 14-14 from the free throw line. Bo Johnson posted 20 points while David McMullen and Wally DeVries each added 10.

#5 Hanover defeated Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.) 70-64 in the third place game.
