Searle scored 22 points in the second half as the Pioneers (6-1) rallied from a 56-44 deficit. The Nicholasville native was 12 of 22 from the field, including seven of 11 from three-point range. He was five of six from long range in the final 20 minutes.
Searle's previous high was 15 points last season against Defiance.
Maryville (6-3) got 25 points and seven rebounds from Bobby Golden and 20 points from All-American guard Sidney Ellis, but couldn't hold off the torrid Pioneers. Transy shot 44.4 percent from the field in the second half, but connected on nine of 15 threes. Transy had a 42-21 advantage over the Scots from long range.
Searle tied the game at 73-73 on three with just over four minutes and Marc Bain's three put Transy ahead for the first time in the second half, 78-77, with two minutes left. Maryville's Raul Placeres missed the front end of a bonus with under a minute to go and Transy's Matt Finke hit one of two free throws with 11 second left. Ellis missed from the right corner as time expired.
Finke had 12 points and five rebounds for Transy and Robert Pendleton added 11 points and six assists. Golden and Ellis were the only Scots in double digits as Maryville cooled from the field in the second half. The visitors, who led 44-38 at intermission, hit 52 percent of their shots in the opening half, but only 41 percent (13 of 32) in the final period.
The Pioneers will continue their pre-holiday schedule on Thursday when they host Thomas More. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. in the Beck Center.
