The Captains trailed for most of the game. They led 16-14 with 12:35 left in the game and did not retake the lead again until 4:39 left in the game when Blake Brookman's jumper in the lane put CNU on top 65-64.
CNU trailed at the break 37-33. The Mules shot exceptionally well in the first half and for the game. Muhlenberg finished the first half 14-of-26 (54%) from the floor, 4-of-9 (44%) on three's but just 5-of-10 from the free throw line. The Captains shot poorly from the field, just 12-of-36 (33%) from the field, 3-of-8 (38%) on three's but were 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
In the second half, Mules were victimized by turnovers, committing 15 in the second half and 25 for the game. CNU scored 28 points off of the Mules 25 turnovers for the game. Muhlenberg finished the half 11-of-25 (44%) from the floor, 2-of-8 (25%) on three's, and 5-of-8 (63%) from the free throw line. The Captains finished 12-of-30 (40%) from the field, 4-of-10 on three's and 1-of-13 (77%) from the charity stripe.
For the game, Muhlenberg finished 25-of-51 (49%) from the floor, 6-of-17 (35%) on three's, and 10-of-18 (56%) from the charity stripe. The Captains finished 24-of-66 (36%) from the field, 7-of-18 (39%) on three's and 16-of-19 (84%) from the charity stripe.
The Mules were led by Jeff Stewart's 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting off the bench. He also finished with 13 rebounds and three blocks. Chase Licata added 15 points and seven boards.
CNU was led, for the fourth consecutive game, by Roderic Carey. Carey finished with 22 points, the fourth straight game he has finished with at least 20 points, on 7-of-14 shooting, and added 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Also finishing in double figures was Korey Lewis with 10 points.
Muhlenberg drops to 5-4 on the year while the Captains improve to 6-2. CNU has completed the 2004 portion of its 2004-2005 schedule and now break for the holidays. The Captains return to action Monday, Jan. 3 as they take on Rutgers-Camden in the Captains Shootout. Please note, game is set for 9 pm.
