LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Mike Lewis scored 18 points on Tuesday night to lead Adrian to a 66-63 win over the Newport News Apprentice School (VA) in the D3 Desert Shootout in Las Vegas, Nevada. Adrian will now face Lake Forest (IL) on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. (PST) in the championship game. With the win AC improves to 5-2 overall and snaps a two game losing streak, while Newport News falls to 3-7 overall. Lake Forest defeated St. Mary's (MD) on Tuesday 66-63 to earn a spot in the title game.

Adrian jumped out to a 31-18 lead with 5:43 left in the first half, but Newport News went on a 10-4 run to close the half and make the score at the break 35-28.

In the second half, Newport tied the contest at 58 with 2:12 remaining in the game, after some cold shooting by the Bulldogs. AC then responded when Lewis scored on a lay-up 10 seconds later and Anthony Thornton nailed a three pointer with 1:45 left on the clock to give AC a 63-58 lead. AC used a jumper by Billy Collins Jr. and a free throw by Brian Schaefer to seal the win.

Lewis led AC with 18 points, while Schaefer tossed in 15 points. In his first action of the season, Adam Novak scored nine points in just 14 minutes of action. Collins Jr. added nine points, as did Thornton.
