The Saints jumped out to an early lead and led by as many as 19 points in the first half. They continued to dominate and held a 30-point advantage 10 minutes into the second half. Monmouth would cut the lead as close as 26 points, but solid defense and 53.1 percent (17-32) shooting in the second half would help Maryville run away with the victory.
Junior Ryan Klein scored a team-high 14 points on 5-6 (.833) shooting from the field, including 1-1 (1.000) from behind the arc to help give the Saints their third win of the season. He also added six rebounds, two blocks, one steal and one assist in the effort. Senior Marcus Henderson and junior Matt Regan added 11 points each in the win.
Junior Jason Rezabek came up big on the boards, grabbing a game-high eight rebounds and helping the Saints outrebound their opponents 54-46. Rezabek also had nine points and three assists. Junior Tim Elwell tallied a game-high four assists and three steals for Maryville, and also chipped in with seven points.
Maryville would finish the game 32-67 (.478) from the field, 9-20 (.450) from three-point range and 13-23 (.565) from the free throw line. In addition to Klein's 5-6 (.833) shooting, sophomore Josh Andrews shot 4-5 (.800) from the field and 1-1 (1.000) from behind the arc to aid the Saints effort. Andrews would finish with nine points, four rebounds and one assist in 14 minutes on the court.
The Fighting Scots had only two players score in double figures. Anthony Beaird recorded a game-high 18 points, while Travis Miller chipped in with 10 points and four steals. Chris Hebeler led Monmouth in rebounding with seven total for the game. Loyd Bowen and Blaise Rogers would also add six rebounds each.
Maryville held the Fighting Scots to just 25.0 percent (17-68) shooting for the game, including 7-31 (.226) from behind the arc. Monmouth also struggled at the foul line, sinking only 12-27 (.444) freebies.
The Saints will have two weeks off before they return to action in the new year. Head coach Matt Rogers and his squad will travel cross-town to take on the Bears of Washington University on Tuesday, January 4, at 8:00 pm. Maryville returns to their home court on Saturday, January 8, when they host Greenville College (IL) in their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) opener.
