The Vikings scored a three on their first possession and eventually built their lead to 9-0 before Andre Smith scored on a jumper at the 15:06 mark. Augustana scored the next seven points for a 16-2 lead, but Concordia came back with eight unanswered points to climb within 16-10 with 9:16 remaining in the half. Unfortunately for the Cougars, the home team dominated the rest of the half with a 18-6 run and a 34-16 halftime lead. Turnovers hurt the Cougar cause as they were guilty of 13; the Vikings, by contrast, committed only two.
Matters did not improve in the second half as the Vikings built their lead as high as 37 points (59-22) before the Cougars were able to put some points on the board in the late going. Edwin Sneed would lead the Cougars with 10 points while Bernard Middleton and Tom Woodruff added nine each.
Concordia will resume play on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m., when they host Dominican University in the opening of Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference play.
