Columbia (Mo.) 75, Maryville (Mo.) 47

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Maryville University men's basketball team hit only 15-59 (.254) shots from the field and 15-23 (.652) from the free throw line as they fell 47-75 to NAIA opponent Columbia College on the road. The Saints fall to 2-7 overall with the loss, while the Cougars improve to 6-8 on the season.
Maryville managed to hit the 20-point mark in the first half, but trailed by just as many points going into halftime. In the second half, the Saints held Columbia to just 11-37 (.297) shooting from the field, including only 1-15 (.067) from behind the arc, but a total of 28 turnovers for the game and only 2-18 (.111) shooting themselves from three-point range would hurt them in the end.
Senior Andrew Hulbert was the lone Saints player to score in double figures. He finished 3-5 (.600) from the field and 4-6 (.667) from the charity stripe for a team-high 10 points. Junior Tim Elwell dished out a game-high seven assists, while sophomore Jason Rezabek added eight points and eight rebounds.
Columbia was led by Nahowan Saxon with a game-high 18 points. He also added six rebounds, three steals and two blocks in the win. Andreas Jakobsen added 17 points and finished 10-11 (.909) from the free throw line for the game. Jakobsen also tallied eight rebounds and three steals.
The Saints have one game remaining before the holiday break. Head coach Matt Rogers and his squad will host the Fighting Scots of Monmouth College (IL) on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
