Bethlehem, PA (December 15, 2004) – Lehigh University beat the Eastern men's basketball team tonight 65-39 in their home gym in Bethlehem, PA. Eastern University is now 3-5 on the season, while Lehigh improved to 4-4. This was the first meeting between the two teams, however there are plans to play again next season. Eastern next plays at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA, on Saturday at 3:00 PM.Eastern had ten players score and all but two players getting major minutes. Freshman Matt Flanagan (Dallas, PA/Bishop O’Reilly) led the team with nine points. Guard Ryan Tozer (Norwood, PA/Friends Central) had seven points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Matt Malloy (Somerdale, NJ/Camden Catholic) had four rebounds. Junior Eric Houston (Philadelphia, PA/Overbrook) scored six points with one rebound, one assist, and one steal. Junior Corey Copeland (Baltimore, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) had five points while senior Brent Voorhees (Grandville, MI/Tri-Unity Christian) had three points, three assists, four rebounds, and three steals, and led the team with 35 minutes of play.For Lehigh, guard Jose Olivero scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed two rebounds with 3 assists while forward Nick Monserez had eight points, two assists, and one steal. Forward Michael Fischman had game-highs with ten rebounds and three blocks.
Eastern shot 13.6% (3-22) from the field in the first half and 36.4% (12-33) in the second half for a 27.3% field goal percentage for the game. The Eagles shot 26.1% (6-23) from three-point range and 30.0% (3-10) from the free throw line. Lehigh shot 50.0% (25-50) from the field in the game. The Mountain Hawks shot 40.0% (6-15) from three-point range and 81.8% (9-11) at the charity stripe.
