12/14/04- Sid Hooper (Andrews) continues to be the shooting catalyst as he aided Sul Ross with 26 points in a 79-73 win against Howard Payne Tuesday evening at the Gallego Center. Hooper’s Super Man effort also included team bests 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. He was also 4 of 9 from 3-point distance and had a stellar performance from the foul line as he nailed 10 of 10 free throws.
Rick Herrera (Alamogordo, NM) finished the day with 16 points of his own along with 2 assists and 2 steals. Justin Steward (Texico, NM) finished third in team scoring with 13 points and was second leading man at the boards with 7 rebounds.
The Jackets gave the Lobos a run for their money as they led Sul Ross by a point, 29-28 at the half as they shot 30.8% from the field in the first half. They improved their field goal percentage to 48.4% in the second half.
The Lobos shot 39% from the floor, had one of their better outings from 3-point range shooting 47.1% and shot 83.3% from the free throw stripe.
Sul Ross improves its overall and season records to 7-1 and 6-1 and remains the first place West Division leader.
The Lobos will enjoy a much deserved break before starting back up against NAIA opponent U.T.P.B. on January 3 at the Gallego Center.
