Junior guard Brandon Bushey reached a personal milestone with 18:48 remaining in the second half as he hit a fast break lay up to reach the 1,000 career point mark. Bushey is the 17th Spartan in school history to achieve the milestone.
The Spartans started the game like they have for all five of their home games as the green and white sprinted out to an early lead. York scored 10 of the first 12 points of the game and then held a 20-8 lead midway through the first half. The Spartans maintained the lead in double figures until Neil Holloway hit a lay-up with 3:27 left in the first half to cut the Spartan lead to nine at 28-19. The Spartans responded with a pair of Kenny Fass treys to quickly push the lead to 15. Those two treys kick started a 10-3 Spartan spurt to end the half as York took a 38-22 lead to the intermission.
The early stages of the second half saw the Eagles try to cut into the Spartan lead but the green and white continued to hold Juniata at bay, maintaining the lead between 15 and 20 points over the first seven minutes of the half. Juniata had cut the Spartan lead to 18 but a pair of Fass free throws at the 13:26 mark pushed the lead to 20 and it would not fall below that margin the rest of the way.
The Spartans received monster efforts from junior Brian Singer and Fass as the duo scored 17 and 16 points respectively. Singer added seven rebounds and a game-high seven blocked shots in just 18 minutes of action. He was 6-for-8 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Singer is averaging 13 points, 8 rebounds and four blocked shots over his last three contests as he continues to become an interior force for YCP. Fass ended the game shooting 5-for-6 from the floor including 4-of-4 from beyond the arc and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. Freshman Chad McGowan added 12 points, seven boards and one steal while senior Ben Seibert turned in another strong performance with 11 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for YCP. Bushey contributed 10 points for the Spartan offense. Sophomore Brad Zerfing and Joe Yeck each did a nice job of running the Spartan offense as each guard dished out six assists.
Aaron Chamberlain and Justin Price each tallied 10 points to lead Juniata. Travis Boyd and Brian Cannon each chipped in with eight points for the Eagles. Chris Jasiota and Nick Hager led the Eagles on the boards with four caroms each.
The Spartans ended the game shooting 51.7% from the floor while the Eagles were held to 31.4% from the field. York scored 81 points despite 24 turnovers for the evening. York outrebounded the Eagles 48-33 and had nine blocks for the game.
The Spartans are now off until January 7 when they open the Fifth Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Classic against Drew University. Tip time from Wolf Gym is set for 6:00 pm. That contest will be followed by the Oneonta vs. Edgewood match up at 8:00 pm.
