FDU-FLORHAM MEN’S BASKETBALL BEATS HUNTER 103-61:
Jeff Hemschoot scores 1,000th point
MADISON, NJ – The College at Florham Devils beat the Hunter Hawks 103-61 to improve to 5-4 overall. Hunter drops to 1-7. Senior forward Jeff Hemschoot (Little Silver, NJ) scored 19 points and finished the game with his 1,001 career points.
The Devils jumped out to a 13-2 lead with 17:13 left in the first half, but Hunter chipped away and cut the Devils’ lead to 28-24 with 10:09 left in the half. FDU responded by going on a 28-9 run to lead 56-35 with 2:23 left. The Devils led 59-39 at the break.
FDU steadily built its lead through the second half.
For FDU, senior center Chris Hendershot (Vernon, NJ) scored a game-high 30 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the year. Hendershot went 11-for-18 from the floor including 2-for-2 on three-pointers, and he made six of eight free throw attempts.
Hemschoot went 7-for-10 from the floor and 5-for-5 from the foul line while pulling down nine rebounds. He also made a game-high three steals.
Senior forward Chris Trotta (Monmouth Beach, NJ) made a game-high four three pointers, going 4-for-4 from the floor for 12 points. All Trotta points came in the first half, as he helped the Devils out to their 20-point halftime lead.
Sophomore guard Frank Emslie (Hazlet, NJ) handed out a career-high nine assists and chipped in 10 points. Sophomore guard Cody Chalmers (Middletown, NJ) added nine points and five assists.
For Hunter, Troy Greaves scored 18 points. Rommel Dolar added 12 markers. Danny Greenberg chipped in 10 points. Brian King had a team-high four rebounds.
The Devils dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Hawks 47-17. Each team shot well in the first half, especially on three-pointers. Hunter connected on 46.7 percent from the floor (14-for-30) and made 54.5 percent of their three-pointers (6-for-11). The Devils shot a blistering 76.9 percent from three-point land (10-for-13) and made 62.5 percent of their shots from the floor (20-for-32).
For the game, the Devils shot 60.9 percent from the floor (39-for-64) and 57.1 percent on three-pointers (12-for-21). Hunter dropped to 39.2 percent for the game from the floor (20-for-51) and 41.2 percent on three-pointers (7-for-17).
The Devils will be back in action when they play at City Tech (NY) on January 5 at 6:00 pm.
