Carthage 73, Concordia (Wis.) 45

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men’s basketball team (5-3, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) defeated non-conference opponent Concordia University (Wis., 4-5), 73-45, on Monday, December 13 at the Carthage Physical Education Center in Kenosha, Wis. The Redmen led by as much as 22 points in the first half, 41-19, at 1:29 and led by 18 at the break, 41-23. Carthage upped its lead to 26 points, 56-30, at 11:09. The Falcons got no closer than 19 points, 59-40, at 5:42, as the Redmen went on to win by 28, 73-45. Carthage shot 44 percent for the game (27-62), while Concordia (Wis.) shot 36 percent (14-39). Four Carthage players scored in double figures. Kevin Menard had a game-high 20 points on seven-of-14 field goals and four-of-11 three pointers. Brian Schlemm had 13 points. Pat Kalamatas had 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds, and Mark Morrison added 10 points. Matt Peets topped the Concordia (Wis.) with 10 points. The Falcons’ Ryan Wietor suffered a severe shoulder in the second half and was removed from the court on a stretcher. Wietor, a first-team All-Lake Michigan Conference pick in 2004 with a 22.3 points per game and 8.3 rebounds, entered the game averaging 21.4 points per game. Carthage travels to Beloit, Wis., on Tuesday, December 21 (7:30 p.m.) for a non-conference game versus Beloit College at Flood Arena.
