victory of the season Saturday afternoon with a 79-70 win over host St. Lawrence University.
The Saxons (5-3, 0-0 Empire 8) took a 14-point lead into halftime after shooting 50 percent (7-14) from three-point range. AU hit 22 of 26 free throws in the second half and finished with four players scoring in double figures to help secure the non-conference win.
Junior guard Quentin Bryant (Buffalo, NY/Seneca Vocational) had the hot hand for AU, shooting 53 percent from the floor for a team-high 26 points to go along with five rebounds. Other Saxons scoring in double figures were sophomore guard Rob McCarter (Wooster, OH/Wooster) with 16 points, sophomore center Dillon Stein (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) netting 15 points and junior forward Ryan Hallett (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) finishing with 12. Stein also added a team-high seven rebounds, while junior guard Chris Lemasters (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) chipped in with six boards and four assists.
Senior forward Aaron Marshall (Buffalo, NY/Buffalo Traditional) had a big night for St. Lawrence, finishing with a double double of 22 points and 13 rebounds. Senior guard Jimmy White (Santa Monica, CA/Santa Monica) had 13 points for the Saints, while senior guard Keith Sullivan (Brooklyn, NY/Xavier) and freshman guard Tyler Shaver (Ogdensburg, NY/OFA) netted 12 each in the losing effort.
The Saxons will be on break for the Holidays but will compete in the Kings College Tournament starting Wednesday, Dec. 30 with a first round game against Kings College at 8 p.m. St. Lawrence will be in Pheonix, AZ for the Cactus Jam, 12/27-30.
