The Pioneers (6-2) held the Hawks (1-6) to 8-for-58 shooting, a 13.8-percent conversion rate. Both the field goals allowed and the field-goal percentage set school records. Hunter shot just 3-for-27 effort in the first 20 minutes as William Paterson led 49-14 at the break.
In addition, the Pioneers held a 54-31 edge in rebounding while holding their third straight opponent under 50 points - and fifth straight to fewer than 55.
Junior forward Nick Torres scored a career-high 14 points and senior guard Robert Sullivan also pumped in 14 for the Pioneers (6-2), while juniors Feron McGee and Miguel Rodriguez added 10 apiece as the Pioneers (6-2) held their third consecutive opponent beneath the 50-point threshold.
William Paterson seized control of the game thanks to Rodriguez and Sullivan, who each scored six points as the Pioneers ran off 20 straight points and took a 22-2 lead with 12:21 remaining in the first half after a Rodriguez lay-up. They led by as many as 55 in the contest as 12 different players entered the scoring column.
Sophomore swingman Samir Sanu added career highs in points (9) and rebounds (9) in the victory.
The Pioneers return to action next Saturday, Dec. 18, when they host the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at the William Paterson Rec Center in their final home game of 2004. Tip-off time is 1 p.m.
