Wilmington 75, Heidelberg 73

TIFFIN, Ohio — The Wilmington College Quakers used a Zach Broermann three-point basket with one second left in the game to give the visitors a 75-73 victory over conference foe Heidelberg College on Saturday afternoon in Tiffin.

Deon Short led the way for the Quakers with 20 points while three others scored in double figures.

The Quakers trailed briefly in the first half and were down 5-4 four minutes into the contest before the Quakers opened a 10-0 run taking a nine-point lead with 13:40 to play in the half. The lead grew to as many as 11 in the half, as the Student Princes cut the deficit to three heading into the locker room at halftime.

The teams battled back and forth for the first seven minutes of the last stanza, before the Quakers used an 8-0 to take a seven-point lead with 9:31 left in the game. The lead grew to as many as nine in the period, including at 3:34 in the half before the Student Princes went on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to one with just under two minutes to play in the game. Heidelberg trailed by two when Greg Tyson converted on a three-point play, giving the hosts a one-point lead with 11 seconds in the game before Broermann provided hero antics, giving the Quakers their fourth win of the season.

Short led the way with 20 points while David Guy scored 14 points and Eric Stirling and Billy Nelson put in 11 and 10 points each. Stirling pulled down eight rebounds while Darrick Barga pulled down seven rebounds while scoring a career-high seven points.

Heidelberg was led by Kenny Gilbert who scored 16 points while Ron Higgins and Shawn Shriver scored 13 and 10 points respectively.

With the win, the Quakers even their record at 4-4 on the year and 2-1 in the OAC while Heidelberg falls to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in league action.

The next game for the Green and White is on December 15 when the Quakers play host to the Engineers of Rose-Hulman Institue with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
