Smith was one of four double-digit scorers for the Gophers (5-2) as Jermaine Saunders matched his career-high by knocking down 19 points, James Russo chipped in with 11 points and Tony Posteraro came off the bench to score 10 points.
Although he contributed only three points to the non-conference victory, Trevor Quinn was credited with 11 assists, including the 300th assist of his Goucher career. He is only the third player in school history to surpass 300 career assists and is the first Goucher player to have more than 10 assists in a game since Mike Doyle established the single-game school record of 13 against Salisbury on Jan. 17, 1998.
The Gophers never trailed as Smith made two baskets and Russo nailed a shot from three-point range on the team's first three possessions of the contest. The Builders (1-6) made only two of their first 12 attempts from the field and were 9-for-28 (.321) from the floor in the first half.
At halftime, the scoreboard showed Goucher ahead 44-28.
Goucher's biggest lead of the contest was 24 points on four different occasions. The first time they gaines a 24-point advantage on the Builders was when Jonathan Garritt landed a three-pointer with 13:48 left to play, making the score 63-39.
The leading scorer for Apprentice School was Charles Holiday with 24 points.
Tonight's win gives Goucher an 8-2 record in their last 10 games against non-conference opponents in the Sports & Recreation Center.
