Fitchburg State 98, Becker 62

Fitchburg, MA — Rashad Cope (Roxbury/Snowden) and Jim Prignano (West Hartford/Northwest Catholic) combined for 31 first half points as Fitchburg State earned their first win of the season in a 98-62 victory over visiting Becker College. Cope ended with 28 points, tying his career high set last November at UMass-Boston.

After Becker jumped out to an early 4-2 lead, the Falcons ran off 23 of the next 27 points to open up a 25-8 lead nearly midway through the first stanza. Cope, who finished the game with a season-best 11 rebounds, capped the run with a dunk following a steal from Brian Torres (North Dighton/Dighton-Rehoboth). Prignano, who ended the game with 19 points, did not miss a shot from the field while amassing 15 first half points, including 3 three-pointers).

FSC (1-7) received a strong effort off the bench from freshmen Brian Skiffington (North Adams/Hoosac Valley) and Peter Uzoma (Boston/Concord-Carlisle). Skiffington registered 10 points and dished out a pair assists while Uzoma collected 9 rebounds while tallying 6 points.

Becker (1-8) was paced offensively by Sam Jacques (New York, NY) who scored 16 points and Rich Logan (Middletown, RI) who recorded 15 points.

Fitchburg State will return to action on Tuesday, December 28th when they face Baruch in the opening round of the Western Connecticut Tournament. The Hawks are off until January 8th when they host Thomas College (ME).
