The win sends the Mules into their winter break with a 7-1 record.
The Rangers (5-2) came into the game allowing only 45.3 points per game. Muhlenberg scored 45 points in the first half alone, but trailed by a point at the break. Despite using only seven players, Drew stayed with the deeper Mules all game and took a 10-point lead, 71-61, with 9:30 to play.
Muhlenberg shot its way back into the game and went on top, 80-79, on a three-pointer by senior Gwen Doyle with 4:53 left. A putback by Lauren Dubek gave the Rangers their last lead, 81-80.
On the Mules’ next possession, junior Tiffany Kirk, who scored 14 points, was fouled after grabbing one of her team-high seven rebounds and made one of two free throws. After a turnover, Courtney took a pass from senior Aril Bryant in the lane and hit a jumper to give Muhlenberg the lead for good at 83-81.
Bryant then stole a pass a midcourt and fed Courtney for a fast-break layup. Doyle capped the burst with another three-pointer, making the score 88-81 with three minutes to play.
Drew cut the gap to one, 90-89, in the last minute and got the ball back with 12 seconds left after the Mules missed the front end of a one-and-one. The Rangers’ point guard dribbled the ball off her foot, however, and junior Kristen Piscadlo corralled the loose ball. She made both free throws, capping her season-best 19-point performance.
Courtney and junior Stephanie Coluccini each scored 10 points for the Mules, who made 13 three-pointers.
Drew senior Jennifer Weldon scored a game-high 22 points, while sophomore Melissa Kraft added 21. Sarah Marquez had eight points, eight assists and six rebounds.
