Oneonta State 76, Hartwick 60

ONEONTA, N.Y. — Senior guard Anthony Negreanu (Christ The King/Woodside, N.Y.) scored 16 of his game-high 17 points in the first half to lead Oneonta State to a 76-60 non-conference victory over Hartwick College in the second game of the Holiday Inn Classic on Friday.

Negreanu made 6 of 8 field goals and hit 4 of 6 from three-point range to help the Red Dragons (3-4) take a 46-29 lead into halftime. Oneonta State connected on 18 of 30 field goals (60 percent) in the first half, including 8-for-16 shooting from behind the three-point line.

Junior forward William Heslin (Hoosic Valley/Schaghticoke, N.Y.) hit a jumper with 3:56 left in the second half to give the Red Dragons their biggest lead of the night at 71-50. Oneonta State held the Hawks (1-5) to 11-for-30 shooting (37 percent) in the second half.

Heslin finished with 14 points and four rebounds, and sophomore guard Michael Reardon (Monsignor Farrell/Staten Island, N.Y.) had 11 points and three steals. Sophomore forward Kevin Reed (Downsville/Downsville, N.Y.) also reached double figures with 10 points for Oneonta State, which will meet Wesleyan in the championship game at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Hartwick, which will face Rensselaer in the consolation game at 1 p.m., received 16 points and two steals from freshman forward Josh Mackenzie (Mount Saint Joseph Academy/Springfield, Vt.). Freshman forward Sterling Green (Burlington Township/Burlington Township, N.J.) contributed eight points and three rebounds, and junior guard Tim Kindlon (Bethlehem/Delmar, N.Y.) added six points and five rebounds.

Wesleyan needed overtime to take a 71-66 victory over Rensselaer in Friday’s opener.
