Rhode Island College 68, Salve Regina 53

NEWPORT, R.I. — Four Anchormen scored in double figures to lead Rhode Island College men's basketball over Salve Regina University, 68-53, in a non-league contest in Newport, Rhode Island tonight.

Kamari Williams [SO/Springfield, Mass.] led the balanced attack with 14 points, eight in the first half when the Anchormen built an 18-point lead (26-8 with 5:25 remaining). The teams were tied at 4-all when RIC enjoyed a 20-2 spurt. Salve Regina, shooting just 25.7 percent in the first half, managed 13 offensive rebounds before intermission.

The closest the Seahawks ever got in the second half was a six-point deficit (34-28 with 17:31 on the clock) after a Chris Goodridge [FR/Merrimack, N.H.] free throw. The lead would see-saw back to 16 (48-32; 12:36), after a Williams three-pointer, to seven (50-43; 8:49), following a Matt Coute [JR/Somerset, Mass.] jumper.

Rhode Island (5-3) would make 13-of-14 free throws in the second half to maintain a double-digit margin. The Anchormen shot 50 percent from the floor in both halves.

Kevin Payette [JR/Woonsocket, R.I.], Kinsey Durgin [SO/Greenwood, Maine], and John Weir [SO/Danbury, Conn.] joined Williams in double figures (13, 11, and 10 points, respectively). Williams made four of five three-pointers.

Coute led Salve Regina (4-4) with 20 points while Chris Collier [SR/Exeter, N.H.] scored 14 and grabbed a game-high nine boards. Matt Smolensky [JR/New York, N.Y.] added 11 points for the Seahawks.

Rhode Island finishes the first semester at Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, December 11, while the Seahawks travel to Connecticut College on the same day.
