Rose-Hulman 69, DePauw 60

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Visiting Rose-Hulman led the entire game on the way to a 69-60 victory in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both squads.

The Engineers jumped out to a 5-0 lead on a three-pointer and jumper by Jason Ludwig and never looked back. That lead reached as many as 11 on a pair of occasions before the Tigers closed the gap to three at 23-20 on Joey Hanger's layup with 7:30 remaining in the half.

That bucket was the last of the half for the Tigers as Rose-Hulman put together a 9-4 run the rest of the way to take a 32-24 lead at the break.

Rose-Hulman extended the margin to as many as 13 early in the second half and the Tigers could get no closer than eight.

Munchie Muskeyvalley led the Engineers with 24 points and five assists and knocked down four three-pointers, all as part of a 14-point first half. Ludwig added 17 points, while Philip Griffith dropped in 12. Kareem Lee hauled down eight rebounds for the Engineers who held a 26-23 advantage on the glass.

Reid Sakel led the Tigers with 14 followed by Alex Stewart with 12. Brian Oilar paced DePauw with six rebounds.

The Engineers hit 54 percent from the floor and held DePauw to just under 43 percent.

DePauw returns to action on Monday, December 20, when it travels to Kalamazoo. Rose-Hulman hosts Anderson on Saturday.
