Washington U. fell behind 9-2 with 17:31 to play in the first half before it gained control of the game. The Bears outscored the Gorloks 42-25 the rest of the period to take a 44-34 halftime lead. Stone led the Bears with 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. He connected on four consecutive treys to draw Washington U. to within 19-17 at the 11:36 mark.
Stone added six assists in the first frame, while junior Calvin Williams tallied seven points off the bench. The Bears connected on 9-of-17 three-pointers and 15-of-29 overall from the field. Senior Kaniela Aiona paced the Gorloks with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting and scored nine of their last 14 points. Webster held an 18-8 edge in points in the paint behind Kaniela's work down low.
The Bears opened the second half with an 11-2 run to put the game out of reach, as Stone hit two more three-pointers during the run. WU connected on 16-of-28 from three-point range; the Bears also knocked down 16 treys Dec. 3 in a 100-95 loss against Benedictine University.
Aiona posted a game-high 26 points for the Gorloks, who moved to 4-5 on the season. Williams registered 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting off the bench for Washington U, and freshman Troy Ruths contributed four blocked shots and four boards.
The Bears (5-3) return to action Saturday, Dec. 11 at Fontbonne University. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. in St. Louis.
