Hobart sank only two baskets in the first 10 minutes of the second half and seven points overall. Rochester hit three three-point goals, the last by Ryan Mee with 10:36 left and took a 55-29 lead.
Rochester's jumpshots stopped falling and the Statesmen climbed back into it. Hobart used a 13-3 run to pull within 58-42, They went on another spurt, ending with a conventional three-point play by Colby Feane and drew within 61-50 with 3:53 left.
Seth Hauben answered with a spinning layup from Joe Canty and Jeff Juron canned two free throws. Hobart did get it down to 10 on Feane's steal and layup with 1:25 left, but Hauben made one free throw and Juron knocked down two more to put it away.
Feane led all scorers with 25 points, hitting 9 of 16 from the floor, 5 of 6 from the line. He added seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists. No other Hobart player had more than seven points.
Jon Onyiriuka scored 18 points, matching his career high for the Yellowjackets. He also had 13 rebounds. Hauben scored 15 points and grabbed 10 boards. He hit 9 of 13 from the stripe. Juron was the third double figure scorer with 15 points.
Rochester heads into the holiday break at 6-2. The Rochester win denied Hobart a chance to match its best start since 1978-79. The Statesmen are 3-1.
