PRYOR DROPS IN 21 LEADING RAMAPO TO 97-86 NJAC VICTORY OVER MONTCLAIR

Mahwah, NJ: The men’s basketball team of Ramapo College recorded a 97-86 victory over the Red Hawks of Montclair State University tonight at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. The Roadrunners led by ANTOINE PRYOR (Jersey City, NJ) improve to 4-1 overall, 3-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while the Red Hawks fall to 2-5 overall, 0-2 in the conference.

Ramapo ended the first half of play, six points (39-45) behind Montclair after shooting 12-36 (33%) from the field behind Montclair’s 17-34 (50%). Junior Gian Paul Gonzalez (North Halden, NJ) and sophomore Al Hawkins (Linden, NJ) each netted 11 points leading the Red Hawks in the first 20 minutes while Ramapo’s NOEL COLON (North Bergen, NJ) recorded 11 of his own leading Ramapo. Montclair led by as many as seven points while Ramapo grabbed the lead by a few just three times during the course of play.

Just under five minutes into the second half, Ramapo took over the game with a lay-up by TODD LOWBER (Riverside, NJ), 53-52, and never looked back stretching the lead to 12 with eight minutes to go and 16 with two minutes left in the game. LOWBER posted 14 second half points while PRYOR netted 18 in the last 20 minutes of play.

For the game, PRYOR chipped in 21 shooting 6-9 from the field, 3-6 from the three-point arc, and 6-6 from behind the line. LOWBER recorded 20 shooting 9-15 while AMIN WRIGHT (Jersey City, NJ) and COLON posted 16 and 13 points respectively. WRIGHT dished out a team-high six assists and QUAMEIR HARDING (Jersey City, NJ) grabbed a team-high five steals.

For the Red Hawks, Gonzalez netted a team-high 27 points shooting 8-14 from the field, 11-12 from the free throw line while Michael Gluck (Union, NJ) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 14 total rebounds (13 defensive). Hawkins chipped in 17 and Rashad Butler (Nassau, Bahamas) posted ten shooting a combined 9-25.

The Roadrunners finished the game shooting 33-73 (45%) from the field while the Red Hawks shot 27-62 (44%).

The Roadrunners return to action after the holiday break when they travel to the Phoenix Cactus Jam Tournament on Saturday, December 28th. The Red Hawks travel to CCNY on December 11th for a 7:00 PM start.
