Trailing 67-55 with 11:13 left in the game, the Pipers (2-5) went on a 13-5 run to cut the lead to four. Montgomery and sophomore Travis Jacobs each scored four points during the run. Aukes added three points.
Montgomery finished the night shooting 8 of 14 from the field, including 6 of 10 from three-point range. Aukes was 8 of 13 from the floor.
Hamline took their first lead of the game with 3:32 left on a Greg Koba basket to make the score 80-78, but Luther (1-4) reeled off six straight points to take the lead back. Montgomery hit a three-pointer to answer back, and Koba added a pair of free throws to make the score 85-84.
Koba finished with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds
The Pipers would stretch the lead to three when Charley Good stole an inbounds pass and went coast-to-coast for a dunk with 35 second left. Good netted 16 points in the night.
Hamline made 3 of 4 free throws in the final 30 second to seal the win.
Hamline fell behind 50-37 at the break despite shooting 58 percent from the floor (15-26). The Norse matched the Pipers, shooting 58 percent in the first half (19-33), but went 8 of 10 from three-point land.
For the game, both team shot better than 50 percent. Hamline shot 54 percent while the Norse were 56 percent from the floor.
Luther put six players in double figures led by Erik Lowe's 17 points. Matt Johnson and Tony Brantner each tallied 14 points for Luther.
