Amherst 96, Worcester State 60

Worcester, MA — The Worcester State College men’s basketball team lost to nationally ranked Amherst College
Tuesday evening, 96-60, in Lancer Gymnasium on the campus of Worcester State College. The loss drops the
Lancers to 2-3, while Amherst remains undefeated at, 6-0.
The Lancers hung with last years NCAA DIII Final Four participant through much of the first half before the Lord
Jeffs separated from Worcester State behind a 10-1 run in the last four minutes of the half. Amherst junior John
Bedford (Ridgewood, NJ) led the way for Amherst in the first half scoring 13 points on 5-12 shooting from the
floor. Amherst shot 40% from the field in the first half, while Worcester State shot at a 34.4% clip.
Worcester State came out of the break trying to close the gap, but two minutes into the second frame, Amherst
went on an 8-0 run and never looked back. The Lord Jeffs shot a blistering 62.5% from the field in the second half.
Amherst had five players reach double figures on the night. Led by Bedford with 18, John Casnocha (San
Francisco, CA) had 17 points, Russell Lee (Lorton, VA) scored 16 and both Andrew Schiel (Wayne, PA) and
Dan O’Shea (Lawrence, MA) totaled 10 on the nights. Worcester State was led by senior guard Ryan Connor
(Worcester, MA) who has 11 points and 3 assists.
Worcester State will return to action on Thursday when they host Nichols College, while Amherst will host Colby-
Sawyer on Saturday.
