New York University 91, St. Joseph's (L.I.) 74

PATCHOGUE, NY — Senior Jeff Gilkerson scored eight points and became the 21st New York University men`s basketball player to collect 1,000 career points in NYU`s 91-74 win over St. Joseph`s College (LI) on Tuesday, December 7, in Patchogue, NY.

Gilkerson entered the game needing five points to top 1,000. He scored his sixth point of the game - and 1,001 for his career - at 12:22 of the first half. Gilkerson has amassed 1,003 career points and is 12 shy of tying Rob Remhild (1,015) for 20th all-time.

The Violets (4-1) did not want to dampen the milestone and did so by shooting 63.3% (19-30) from the field, and 61.5% (8-13) from beyond the arc in the first half to put the game out of reach. Defensively, NYU held the Golden Eagles (2-4) to 39.1% (9-23) shooting from the field in the opening stanza en route to a 51-29 halftime lead.

Junior Jared Kildare scored a team-high 24 points, while sophomore Michael DeCorso came off the bench to add 15. Sophomore Daniel Falcon also came off the bench to supply 13 points in 13 minutes.

Junior Jimmy Janeczek recorded 12 points on four three-point field goals, and along with Kildare, added five assists. Senior Bobby Serafin tied Falcon with a game-high five rebounds.

Lionel Watlington led St. Joseph`s with 24 points.
