Averkamp was an astounding 19-of-23 shooting from the floor, including a perfect 2-of-2 from three-point range. Maranatha Baptist (3-5, 0-2 LMC) had trouble dealing with the Eagles’ post players all night long, as 6-foot-8 center Greg Blaska added 18 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while forward Seth Cooper scored 16 points to go along with seven boards.
Ninety-nine points is the highest single-game total by an Edgewood College team in nearly 10 years -- the Eagles defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering, 134-87, back on Feb. 25, 1995. The Eagles turned the ball over just five times versus the Crusaders and shot 53.8 percent from the floor despite 1-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc in the second half.
The Crusaders trailed 54-37 at halftime and were behind by as many as 30 points in the second half. They boasted four players scoring in double figures led by Tim Jones, who tallied 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including seven three-point baskets.
The Eagles improved their overall record to 4-2 this season, while their record in the Lake Michigan Conference remains unscathed at 2-0. Edgewood College will take on defending LMC champion Lakeland College (2-4, 0-1 LMC) this Saturday, Dec. 11. Tip-off versus the Muskies is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. in Sheboygan, Wis.
