The Pioneers jumped out to an early 28-12 lead just six minutes into the game, but allowed the Vikings to get back into the game and cut their lead to 56-50 at the half.
In the second half, the two teams played through 11 ties before a Matt Brown three-pointer with just under four minutes remaining in the contest sparked a late surge by Grinnell. First-year point guard Lance Little finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Little was 5 of 6 from the free-throw line. Junior guard Toby Carlson added 12 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
Senior forward Cole Robertson contributed 10 points and seven rebounds, while first-year forward/center Aden Stinebrickner-Kauffman chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds. Walsh ended the game 6 of 13 from behind the three-point arch.
For the game, Head Coach David Arseneault's squad made 19 of 66 (28.8 percent) three-point attempts, including 14 in the first half.
