Hiram tied the score at 20 with 7:11 left in the first half, but then the Tartans went on a 14-5 run to take a 34-25 lead into the locker room. Carnegie Mellon then went on a 15-2 run early in the second half to break the game open and go on to the 82-49 victory.
Carnegie Mellon had 15 different players score led by a trio each cashing in with 12 points each, junior Nate Maurer (Pittsburgh, PA/Linsley School), senior Michael Divens (Trafford, PA/Penn Trafford), junior A.J. Straub (St. Mary’s, PA/Elk County Catholic).
The Tartans shot 46% for the game to the Terriers 30%. Carnegie Mellon also led the way on the glass hauling in 44 boards as Hiram grabbed 42.
The Tartans will be back in action Saturday, December 11 as they play host to Skidmore. Tip is set for 3:00 pm.
