Thiel 67, Penn State-Altoona 59

GREENVILLE, Pa. — Thiel College junior forward Damien Williams totaled 20 points and nine rebounds Monday to lead Thiel College to a 67-59 win over Penn State Altoona at Beeghly Gymnasium.

Williams, coming off a 20-point effort in the Tomcats' 87-81 win over Hiram College on December 1, led a trio of Tomcats in double figures Monday. Senior guard Daryl Moore scored 14 points to go with four rebounds, four assists and four steals, while freshman forward Joe Herrmann added 13 points and four boards.

The Lions (0-4) jumped out to a 23-10 lead midway through the opening half before Thiel closed out the half on a 17-6 to close the gap to two (29-27) going into the break.

A Williams' three-pointer with 14:38 remaining put Thiel up by two (37-35). After a 39-39 tie, Thiel rattled off 10 straight points to extend its lead to 10 (49-39) at the 11:22 mark of the second half.

Junior forward Stephen Laird upped the Tomcat lead to 11 (62-51) with 2:45 to play and the Tomcats were able to hold on to record the eight-point win.

Rasheed Bey paced the Lions with 17 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots. Ethan Stewart-Smith added 11 points in the loss.

Thiel finished the contest with a 39-32 advantage on the glass and hit 43.3 percent (26-60) of its shots.
The Tomcats return to action on Wednesday, December 8 when they will travel to York, Pa. to take on York College at 7:30 p.m.
