Texas Lutheran improved to 4-3 overall and to 3-1 in the American Southwest Conference with the victory.
Schreiner fell to 0-5 overall and to 0-4 in the ASC.
Summers, a senior from San Antonio, was held scoreless in the first half and only managed to pick up two rebounds, a turnover and a technical foul in the first 20 minutes.
But Summers came out of the break and immediately looked to get involved in the offense. He hit a three-pointer on his first shot of the second half and finished the final 20 minutes by making six of his 10 field goal attempts and five of his six free throws. Four of Summers’ field goals were three-pointers.
Summers entered the game leading the ASC in three-point shooting at 51.9 percent. He was 4-of-6 from long range on Monday night.
Tommy Stolhandske added 19 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Will Hudson came off the bench to add 14 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Texas Lutheran led 31-26 at the half despite making 16 turnovers. The Bulldogs held the lead by holding Schreiner to 29.6 percent from the field.
In the second half, with Stolhandske and Summers leading the way, the Bulldogs’ lead grew to 16 on two free throws from Matt Nelson with 5:59 to play. Schreiner cut the deficit to eight on a Jarel Hall three-pointer, but only 44 seconds remained.
The Bulldogs made four free throws down the stretch to account for the final score.
Texas Lutheran’s next game is scheduled for Dec. 16, when the Bulldogs welcome conference foe Austin College to Memorial Gymnasium.
