Simpson scored the first basketball of the game and never trailed. The Storm opened the game on a 13-2 run and led 34-21 heading into halftime. The Simpson defense forced the Vikings to shoot only 17.1% from the field in the first half (6-35). The Storm led by as much as 17 in the closing frame, but Augustana mounted a charge over the final eight minutes which resulted in Augustana whittling the lead down to five when Drew Wessels connected on a three-pointer with 1:20 to go.
Wessels stole the ball from Storm point guard Mike Martin as Simpson attempted to advance the ball. He went for a short jumper, but missed and he fouled Jason Soppe right away. Soppe missed both free throws, giving the Vikings another chance to make it a one possession game. Rick Harrigan went up for a short jumper and missed, Scott Ellens rebounded the ball out to Jason Parkinson who made a layup on the fast break and was fouled by Salisbury, disqualifying him from the game. Parkinson completed the three-point play, making it 73-65. Simpson scored three more points from the line while Travis Hoyt's dunk with 10 seconds to go made it the final 76-67.
The Vikings concluded the game, shooting 25-75 from the field (33.3%). Parkinson led all scorers with 23, the fourth time in six games he has scored at least 20 this season. Ryan Hittenmiller posted 11 points, six rebounds, and six blocks.
Augustana had four players score in double figures, led by Jay McAdams-Thornton who had 15 on 5-19 shooting. He also had seven rebounds. Harrigan had 13 while Hoyt and Wessels each had 12. Hoyt grabbed eight rebounds.
