Elms 100, Johnson State 66

CHICOPEE, Ma. — Elms College sophomore guard John Ancrum (Harlem, NY) tallied a season-high 20 points, including 11 of 11 shooting from the free throw line, and the Blazers won their fifth straight game with a 100-66 victory over Johnson State College in Sunday afternoon’s North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men’s basketball game at the Maguire Center.

The Blazers (5-1 overall, 2-0 NAC) used a balanced offensive attack as four players reached double figures. Junior center Anthony Bernard (Tamarac, FL), junior guard James Vassar (Waterbury, CT) and junior forward Lonnie Branyon III (West Haven, CT) all reached double figures en route to season-high performances in the victory. Bernard had 19 points, Vassar dropped in 17 points and Branyon added 15.

Johnson State lost its second straight conference game of the weekend to fall to 2-5 overall, 0-2 NAC. The Badgers were plagued by perimeter play, as they were limited to just 6 of 22 shooting from 3-point range in the loss.

Freshman guard Charlie Viana (Valley Stream, NY) struck for a game-high 22 points and junior forward Shane Levine (Georgia, VT) added 15 points for the Badgers.

Elms College plays host to WNEC in a non-conference tilt on Thursday, December 9. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
