Christopher Newport 90, Fisk 72

NEWPORT NEWS, VA — Christopher Newport's men's basketball team cruised past Fisk 90-72 Sunday afternoon in the Freeman Center.

The Captains took a nine point lead, 45-36, into the lockerroom at halftime on 15-of-34 (44%) shooting from the field including 6-of-11 (55%) on three's. The Bulldogs finished 10-of-34 (29%) from the field and was 4-of-10 (40%) on three's, including Chris Adams' three from just inside halfcourt at the buzzer before halftime.

Jeremy Romeo had the hot hand in the first half with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting including 5-of-6 on three-pointers.

The second half was much of the same with CNU out scoring Fisk 45-36. The Captains shot 50% (17-of-34) from the field, 3-of-13 (23%) on three's and 8-of-12 (67%) from the charity stripe.

For the game, Fisk finished 21-of-66 (32%) from the field, 6-of-16 (38%) on three's and 24-of-37 (65%) from the free throw line. CNU finished 32-of-68 (47%) from the floor, 9-of-24 (38%) on three's and 17-of-25 (68%) from the free throw line.

The Bulldogs finished with five players in double figures led by Cedric Thomas' 19 points and he added six rebounds. Adams added 12 points and six assists, Jeremiah Williamson added 11 points, and Aaron Hinton and Courtney Ellis added 10 points each.

Romeo led the Captains with a season high 24 points. Korey Lewis added 14 points and 11 rebounds, Steven Murrer added 14 points, Krizzio Washington finished with a season high 11 points and Blake Brookman finished with a career high 15 assists, three off the school record.

There were a total of 49 fouls called, 30 on the Captains.

Fisk drops to 2-3 overall while CNU improves to 4-0. The Captains return to action next Sunday as they travel to Randolph-Macon with tip-off set for 2 pm.
