Centre 61, Hendrix 52

DANVILLE, Ky. — Colonels win third straight with 61-52 win
 
Freshman guard Matt Nestheide scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Centre College men's basketball team to a 61-52 win over Hendrix College, Sunday, Dec. 5, in Danville, Ky.

The Colonels improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, while Hendrix falls to 1-6 and 0-2 in conference action.

Nestheide shot only six times from the floor, but made four of his attempts - all three pointers - and was seven of eight from the charity stripe. Nestheide also grabbed four rebounds in the win.

Sophomore forward Matt Jacobson scored 14 points and senior center Reggie Magnusson added 12 points for the Colonels. Junior forward Coy Zerhusen grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and had three assists.

Justin Jaramillo scored 14 points to lead the Warriors. Drew George added nine points and Brock Carpenter chipped in eight points in the loss.

The Colonels opened the game with a 7-0 run only to see Hendrix respond with a 10 run of its own. The first half was tightly contested featuring six ties and six lead changes. Centre would take a 28-26 lead into halftime.

The second half saw much of the same with six more ties and four lead changes. With the scored tied 45-45 at the 5:18 mark, the Colonels would go on a 14-3 run to take control and put the game away.

Centre shot 42.5% (17-40) for the game, including 21-25 (84%) from the free throw line. Hendrix shot only 33.3% (17-51) from the floor and made 15 of its 22 (77.8) free throw attempts.

The Colonels will be back in action, Wednesday, Dec. 9, when they play Transylvania University, in Danville, Ky. The non-conference tilt will start at 7:30 p.m.
