Stitzel now has 998 points in his Widener career, and can become the 22nd player in school history to score 1,000 points if he scores in Monday’s contest against Rutgers-Camden.
Stitzel was 11-of-17 from field, and scored 23 points in the first half.
Widener took the lead for good at 16-14 with 12:02 left which marked the start of a 13-5 run in which the Pioneers hit six straight three-pointers. As a team, Widener hit 15 three-pointers with 11 of them coming in the opening half.
Widener built the lead as high as 21 points in the first half, going into intermission with a 48-27 lead as Stitzel hit three three-pointers in the final two minutes of the first half.
The second half saw Widener go up as high as 38 points twice (85-47 and 87-49) before Juniata was able to close the gap to 26 at the end of the game.
Sophomore guard Essien Ford had 14 points for Widener, while sophomore forward Malcolm Thomas had 11 points.
Junior center Kris Clarkson had seven blocks in the contest, including five in the first half. He tied for the team-high in rebounds with Thomas as they both had six.
Travis Boyd had 18 points for Juniata, who shot just 27 percent from the field in the first half.
Widener will host Rutgers-Camden on Monday.
