St. Thomas 69, Macalester 42
Sophomore Isaac Rosefelt had 15 points, 19 rebounds and four blocks and led a game-closing 31-9 run over the last 15:00 as St. Thomas pulled away to a 69-42 victory over Macalester Saturday in MIAC men's basketball at UST.
Senior guard Neal Anderson scored 16 points, junior forward Joey Shimek had 13 points, and junior guard Sean Sweeney had 10 points and five assists for the Tommies (1-1 overall, 1-0 MIAC).
The 6-foot-8 Rosefelt, a St. Thomas Academy graduate who played last season at Division I Bowling Green, had 11 second-half rebounds in his first game at home in Schoenecker Arena. That helped UST post a 53-30 advantage on the glass.
Freshman center Tom Conboy had 14 points and five rebounds for Macalester (1-5, 0-2). Senior guard Erik Jackson added 11 points and six assists.
The Scots shot just 28% from the field and converted only 6-of-12 at the foul line. They missed their first 10 3-point tries and finished 4-of-21 from behind the arc.
Rosefelt had six points to fuel an 18-5 Tommie run that gave UST a 35-21 lead in the last minute of the first half. Macalester hit its first trey to pull within 35-24 at halftime, then used a 9-3 run to pull within 38-33 with 15:21 left. But the Tommies answered with a 12-1 run to stay in control.
St. Thomas plays Monday at home vs. Hamline.
