Castleton State 71, Elms 49

CHICOPEE, Ma. — Elms College freshman forward Amy Kasala (Dalton, MA) tallied a team-high 12 points, but Castleton State College placed three players in double figures and used a big run early in the second half to pull away to a 71-49 win over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon’s North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game at the Maguire Center.

Sophomore guard Carrie Black (Warrensburg, NY) scored a game-high 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers to lead the Spartans, who won their conference opener to improve to 3-2 overall, 1-0 NAC.

Senior guard Casey Wedge (Bristol, VT) had 11 points and senior guard Kit Vreeland (Scarborough, ME) added 10 points to also reach double figures for the Spartans, who rolled off a 21-9 run in the first eight minutes of the second half to pull away for good.

Sophomore forward Mary Kate Roos (Danbury, CT) added seven points and five rebounds for the Blazers in the loss.

Elms College returns to NAC play on Sunday, December 5 when it hosts Johnson State College. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at the Maguire Center.
