Elms 86, Castleton State 66

CHICOPEE, Ma. — Elms College senior guard Kyle Seyboth (Seekonk, MA) netted a game-high 28 points, including eight 3-pointers and the Blazers pulled away from a six-point halftime lead en route to a convincing 86-66 win over Castleton State College in Saturday afternoon’s North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men’s basketball opener for both teams at the Maguire Center.

Seyboth knocked down six second half 3-pointers and the Blazers shot nearly 61-percent from the field in the second half to pull away from a 37-31 lead at intermission. Castleton State was limited to just 38.9-percent shooting from the field, including 3 of 23 from 3-point range.

With its win, Elms College won its fourth straight game to improve to 4-1 overall, 1-0 NAC. Castleton State, which was coming off a thrilling 72-69 win over Middlebury College at home on Tuesday night, fell to 1-4 overall, 0-1 NAC.

Sophomore guard John Ancrum (Harlem, NY) narrowly missed a triple-double after finishing with 15 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds. Ancrum has reached double figures in all five games for the Blazers this season.

Freshman guard Randall Hite (Hartford, CT) added a collegiate career-high eight points for the Blazers in the victory.

Castleton State had three players reach double figures, led by sophomore guard Timothy Bellamy (Syracuse, NY), who tallied a team-high 14 points, including 10 of 12 shooting from the free throw line. Senior guard Ray Daley (Brooklyn, NY) had 12 points and senior guard John Galarneau (Watervliet, NY) added 10 points as the other Spartans to reach double figures.

Elms College returns to NAC play on Sunday, December 5 when it hosts Johnson State College. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
