Hardin-Simmons 65, East Texas Baptist 60

MARSHALL, Texas — The Isoms weren’t enough Saturday.

East Texas Baptist got double-doubles from twin brothers Chris and Cedric Isom Saturday, but no other Tiger scored more than six points as visiting Hardin-Simmons stole a 65-60 win in American Southwest Conference men’s basketball action in Ornelas Gymnasium.

The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for the Tigers and puts ETBU at 2-3 overall heading into a non-conference matchup at Wiley College Tuesday. The Tigers also saw their conference mark even at 2-2

HSU improves to 5-2 and 3-1 with the victory.
Cedric Isom scored a team-high 21 points and had 10 rebounds along with seven assists and five steals. Twin brother Chris finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds to give the Isoms their first combo double-double of the season.

But no other Tiger was able to step up on the offensive end, with Rodney Calhoun scoring six points two days after scoring 24 in Thursday’s 81-75 win over McMurry. No other ETBU player in the lineup hit more than two shots all day.

HSU was led by 22 points and seven rebounds from Calvin Nite, with Zach Pickelman chipping in 19. The Cowboys shot 43 percent from the field compared to only 36 percent for ETBU.

The Tigers were off the mark from beyond the 3-point line, shooting just 3-of-17 from above the arc.
Following Tuesday’s game at cross-town rival Wiley, the Tigers hit the road for games next Friday and Saturday at Howard Payne and Sul Ross State before shutting down for the holidays.
