DePauw 76, Maryville (Mo.) 75

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — DePauw's Reid Sakel hit a three-pointer and four free throws in the final 54 seconds to take the Tigers from a 70-69 deficit to a 76-72 lead and an eventual 76-75 victory over visting Maryville (Mo.). The Tigers improved to 4-2, while the Saints dropped to 1-6.

Ryan Klein's free throw with 1:36 remaining gave Maryville a 70-69 lead before Sakel knocked down a trey with 54 seconds remaining. Jason Rezabek's layup knotted the score at 72-72 with 43 seconds remaining. Sakel then hit one of two charity tosses with 34 seconds left and took a charge on the Saints' Matt Regan with 25 seconds remaining. Sakel hit both of the subsequent free throws to push the DePauw lead to 75-72.

Maryville's Ben Hebl missed a three-pointer with 15 seconds left, but Sakel grabbed the board and was fouled. He hit one of two from the line to make it 76-72. Maryville's Marcus Henderson buried a three with four seconds left to trim the DePauw lead to 76-75. DePauw's Austin Brown missed two free throws with two seconds remaining, but the Saints weren't able to get off a shot as time expired.

Maryville led much of the first half with the largest margin at 22-15 before the Tigers came back to take as much as a three-point lead. The Saints led at the break 38-37. The lead see-sawed in the second half with 10 ties and nine lead changes before Sakel's three with 54 seconds left gave DePauw the lead for good.

Steve Schott posted his second double-double of the season by equaling a career high with 15 points and establishing a career best with 12 rebounds. Todd Capes followed with 13, while Sakel and Brown each added 12.

Klein had a double-double for the Saints with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Rezabek chipped in 19 points and Regan added 11.

DePauw shot 48 percent for the game, while Maryville connected on 50 percent from the floor and the Tigers held a 36-30 advantage on the boards.
