The Saxons (3-2, 0-0 Empire 8) trailed by six at halftime, but Cortland (4-1) carried the momentum into the second half, securing the non-conference win. AU continued to shoot well from the floor, hitting 42 percent of their field goals but were out-rebounded for the game, 43-29.
Sophomore guard Rob McCarter (Wooster, OH/Wooster) paced the Saxons, shooting 66 percent, including three of three from behind the arc, for a team-high 18 points. Junior guard Quentin Bryant (Buffalo/Seneca Vocational) and sophomore center Dillon Stein
(N. Huntington, PA/Norwin) got into foul trouble but finished the game with 12 and 11 points respectively. Bryant also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
For host Cortland, sophomore guard/forward Rod Headley (Peekskill/Peekskill) had 15 points and 11 rebounds, while junior guard Brian Kirchhoff (Webster/Webster) finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Dave Jutton (Red Hook/Red Hook) and senior guard Justin O’Garrow (Port Washington/Paul D. Schreiber) had 18 and 14 points respectively for the Red Dragons.
AU men’s basketball will be in action next on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m. at Geneseo. SUNY Cortland will also play on Dec. 7, at 8 p.m. home against Ithaca College
